Breaking the News

I finally told my boss I was pregnant this week.

She's going on leave for the whole of next week so I thought it would be a good opportunity to break the news to her before she left. Since she's known to start work early, I arrived in office extra early that day and crept over to her desk.

When I finally managed to muster the guts to blurt out the dreaded words ("Boss, I'm pregnant"), her response was the best anyone could ever expect. She burst into a radiant smile and clapped her hands in joy. "Well Done" were her first words. She then proceeded to rattle tips on how to better take care of oneself during this crucial first trimester.

My boss has always been pro family. She's a mother of 3 lovely kids and works flexi hours from home sometimes. We sometimes call her superwoman because she seems to juggle work and family so seamlessly. To receive such a response from her was not unexpected but I always prepare myself for the worst.

Immediately, I was flooded with relief. Mission accomplished!

The next step is to plan how to break this news to the RM I am supporting. Its going to be a tricky one since she has been trying to conceive unsuccessfully for quite some time.

Me and Mrs Boi

Based on feedback from friends, attending childbirth education courses are a helpful resource for parents to be and can better equip us with useful skills on how to care for the baby when it is born.

Some friends attended the one conducted by KK while others attended the one conducted by Thomson. For Gleneagles (the hospital I am delivering in), the curriculum doesn't seem as comprehensive as the rest.

One name which has always popped up is that of Mrs Wong Boi Boi from Thomson Medical Centre. I like the sound of her name. I visualise her as a bubbly plus sized middle aged auntie with an infectious laugh and a boisterous demeanor. Her courses come highly recommended so she will definitely be my first choice.

Here's a brief outline of the course taken from the hospital website:

Childbirth Education Course
We regard childbirth education as an integral part of our family centred care. Awaiting the arrival of your baby can cause unnecessary anxiety and apprehension.

The Childbirth Education Course consists of six weekly lessons. You may wish to sign up for the full course or any two lessons (only for subsequent deliveries) and we will include the Doctor’s Talk at no extra charge.

With this in mind, the Childbirth Education Course is organised for expectant mothers and their partners to prepare them for the experiences and challenges ahead.
