Yet another eventful week for Week 18
Just when I thought I had reigned victorious over the flu bug, a rash attack hit me.
It started off with a harmless dinner at a coffeeshop just opposite our flat on Tuesday evening. I ordered sin chew beehoon, sambal sweet potato leaves and chinese wu xiang ngoh hiang. The food was good and my in laws loved the bee hoon. However, I think there was something funny in the bee hoon flavoring which didn't quite agree with my insides.
That night, I suddenly woke up with a bad itch. It wasn't bad enough to warrant a trip to the doctor's but it did irritate me for about an hour or so. I wasn't particularly worried about it and went back to sleep.
The next day, it was work as usual but the itch got progressively worse as the day wore on and started spreading to my arms, leg and face. By late afternoon it got so unbearable that I decided to see the same doctor whom I had earlier visited for flu. The doctor was incredibly sympathetic and offered to give me a jab for immediate relief. I however declined and instead opt for a milder dose of antihistamine and calamine lotion. That day, I knocked off at 530pm sharp and spent an agonising night in the air conditioned room trying to sleep the itch off.
It was a short week (Friday being a public holiday-Deepavali) and there was lots to do at work . Despite being given medical leave the following day, I decided to go back to work. The antihistamine was highly effective in quelling the itch but also made me feel very drowsy. Thankfully, I managed to keep things under control and pushed on. At 545pm, I decided that I had done enough and decided to call it a day.
Thurs night proved more challenging then Wednesday. The itch was like a swarm of bees, relentlessly attacking different parts of my body at different times. I woke up with incredibly itchy feet and could only grimace in exasperation.
On Friday, things seemed back to normal. The itch had receded and I spent much of the day watching TV and resting. I think it helped my body recuperate faster. By Saturday, I was up and about like a rabbit and had even worked up a ravenous appetite, gaining 1 kilo overnight.
I hope the worst is behind me. Never expected to have to deal with 2 sicknesses at one go. Hope the little one is oblivious to my agony and is not adversely affected by the antihistamine I have taken ( I tried my best to take as little as possible). When I lie on my belly or lay still for too long, I do feel flutters in my tummy. Could it be the little one?
When hubby presses his fingers on my belly he can also feel its heartbeat vigorously thumping away. These are small reminders of the wonder of life!
