You will be the first grandchild born into both sides of our family. As such your impending arrival is highly anticipated by many, especially your paternal grandparents, who will be your principle caregivers (and who are very much looking forward to it). Thanks to you, I have been getting away with alot of things, including exemption from housework, freedom to eat a mountain of pork floss buns and free car rides to and from work. Your dad and I have also been on the receiving end of numerous hand me downs and new items from well wishers.
Perhaps I'm just being paranoid but there seem to be quite alot of Rabbit babies born this year. In my office alone, 2 other colleagues are expecting Rabbit girls. A good friend of ours is also due to deliver a Rabbit baby in August. I guess many people were waiting for the Tiger Year to pass before trying for a kid (We certainly weren't). Hope you don't encounter too much competition in school kiddo.
Being first time parents, we (especially your dad who is a worrywart by nature) are rather clueless on how to bring you up. Should we be kiasu parents and make sure you receive nothing but the best or should we leave you to your own devices? Just read an article detailing how parents are queuing overnight just to get their kids on the 2013 waiting list for Nanyang Kindergarten. Scary.
For the time being, what's even scarier to me is the prospect of having to breastfeed you for as long as 4 months. My poor breasts! I'm not sure if I can manage but will do my best. Hopefully what I learnt at the prenatal class will be of some help.
As usual, retailers are trying to capitalize on gullible consumers like your mom during this Rabbit Year. Some of these promotions seem quite far fetched. Suntec City is organising a "Rabbits in the City" promotion featuring a Best Dressed Rabbit contest and a Rabbit Race. Even ang moh coffee joints like Spinelli are joining in the fun with rabbit oriented goodies like Rabbit Milander cookies. The most crazy of them all is BreadTalk which has rolled out a whole range of Bunny themed bread for CNY under the tagline "aBUNdantly explosive".
Life is good now for your dad and I. We lead a carefree lifestyle, have our own place and get to travel and dine in luxury as and when we wish. Whilst some of these creature comforts will have to take a back seat during your initial years, we are determined to embrace you into our lives and hope to reclaim the same kind of quality lifestyle in the near future.
Ps: I fully intend to call you "Weng Weng" as a term of endearment even after you are born. Your dad however violently objects.
Ppss: We still haven't decided on a Chinese name for you yet!
