It is a highly anticipated visit as we are anxious to know whether the baby is developing normally.
Dr Chan is highly experienced and exudes confidence. He is able to address all our concerns proficiently and we always feel that we are in good hands. Dr Chan is also a firm believer in spousal support and always makes it a point to engage Hubby during all my visits. He likes to feed Hubby and I with info on how to lose weight and lead a healthy lifestyle. During today's visit, he shared with us a new website he had recently found www.vegsource.com and told us to watch the video on "Six Reasons to Avoid Dairy at All Costs".
Dr Chan's visits are unfortunately costly affairs, both in terms of time and money. Our visit was scheduled at 1030am but it was not until 1230pm that I got to go in. Each visit costs about SGD343, which is very high compared to market rate. On a brighter note, costs will be significantly alleviated once the package sets in from Week 16 onwards (the package costs SGD880 and lasts till full term. It covers all costs pertaining to vitamins, scans and consultation).
Today's ultrasound went very smoothly. The fetus is growing beautifully and the gestational sac now resembles a heart. With Dr Chan's help, we even managed to spot some fingers and feet. I was very relieved to hear the baby's strong heartbeat, which registers at a healthy 160 beats per minute. It is comforting to know that the chance of miscarriage falls to 4% after a fetal heartbeat can be heard. My next visit is scheduled a month later, on Week 13.
Immediately after the appointment, we informed our parents of the good news and gave them the all-clear to notify the rest of the extended family of my pregnancy.
